JEFFERSON COUNTY OPEN SPACE RESTORATION PROJECT
1,800 Linear Feet| Jefferson County, CO | Construction Completed in 2011
This project included a reference reach analysis, hydraulic design and modeling using HEC-RAS, permitting with full design submittals, and construction of the in-stream features. This project improved fisheries and boating access to portions of the creek. Construction was performed during a historic run-off season and during the height of boating season. Our team worked closely with the rafting companies to minimize our impact on their very limited season and had a very tight construction window due to Brown trout spawning. In-stream work could only occur from June 1 through September 30. High stream flows only allowed for construction between August 1, 2011 through September 30, 2011.
Frontier and BCH worked with West Denver Trout Unlimited to develop a conceptual design plan for a stream and fisheries restoration project on Clear Creek. The conceptual design was used in the submittal process for multiple grant funding applications. Following the award of multiple federal and state grants, Frontier and BCH provided a 100% design-build effort to complete the project. The design-build project included a reference reach analysis, a complete hydraulic design and model using HEC-RAS, multiple agency permitting with full design submittals, and the eventual construction of the in-stream features. Numerous in-stream features were constructed including 4 J–hooks, 7 cross-vanes, 400 LF of toe wood/sod mats with woody debris, and 11 boulder clusters to provide grade control, reduce streambank scour, braided, shallow watercourses, and improve fish habitat. A secondary goal of this project was to improve fisheries and boating access to the steep and often inaccessible portions of the creek. The project was performed during a historic run-off season and during the height of boating season. Our team worked closely with the rafting companies to minimize our impact on their very limited season. This project had a very tight construction window due to brown trout spawning and in-stream work could only occur from June 1 through September 30.
